Welcome to the Free to Play (F2P) forum, covering a growing number of games which are free to download, and do not charge a monthly subscription fee. There are literally hundreds of titles available. The quality and depth of some games have resulted in an enthusiastic following of TOG members.

Some great examples include Runes of Magic, Allods (in Beta), Rohan: Blood Feud, Dungeons & Dragons, Perfect World and a personal favorite Trackmania :)

I'm so happy that there is a part of the forum now where we can review and discuss free to play games !

When I became a member of tog I was surprised that this wasn't the case. A lot of the friends I made here didn't even know what free to play games are all about. And if they had heard of them they often assumed that they are all of very poor quality. These games have improved a lot over the last years, and I think both F2P and subscription based mmo's have a lot to offer.

Free mmo's can be a great alternative when you don't want to spend a lot of money or when you don't have enough time to spend on an mmo. If you download one of these games it doesn't matter if you 'll be able to log in a few times a month or every day because they won't cost you anything unless you spend money in the item shop.

You can combine both off course, when I subscribe to an MMO I always have a F2P MMO on my pc aswell. I play the second one when there is maintenance on my main MMO, and also from time to time when I'm fed up with grinding on my main game.

Henrideacon and me are testing a few of these free mmo's together with some other toggers. We would like to invite you join us in game, to give us your opinion on these games, or to post a review of the free to play mmo's that you play.

You can also come and have a chat with us on the MMO- Free to play channel on Teamspeak. Pm Henri or me if you're interested and we will send you the log in details.

Thanks a lot Father, Ashlann and all others for giving us this forum !!

Nice to see the inclusion of such a message board topic. :) Probably now due to the archiving of a few defunct message boards within the community.

I'll add the only F2P MMO I'm dabbling with on a partial basis.

    Free Realms: (SOE)

Free Realms - Welcome To Free Realms

I hope some of the F2P Mmo threads from the general "Mmorpg: The Realms" message board are moved into this one.

Including this older thread on "Free Realms" started by brohawk. Link. Thanks. ;)

I tested Free Realms, it's fun and the great thing about is that you don't even have to download it, it's a browser based game.

I'm about to fly in the face of the whole purpose of an Older Gamer community with this next post.

If you've not tried it yet, go and download [IMG].

I went to check it out one day just so I could have a simple MMO to play with my sons (9 and 6). Now I'm hooked completely. Fire, Ice, Myth, Balance... Life, Storm, even Death. Pick your wizard's primary school and have a blast right out of the gate.

Wizard 101 is the unsung hero of free MMOs in this gamer's opinion. I've played several others as well as tons of pay-to-plays (WoW CoH/V, AC, DAoC, WAR..etc etc)

This one's free to play forever, but you can only access high level content and do things like ranked duels if you're a subscriber.

It's probably free for only one reason: so you'll play it and then eventually become a subscriber... and you probably will. This game is amazing. Even subscriptions are cheap ($60 for a year)

I cannot speak highly enough of this game.

If you are burned out on the time consuming MMORPGs, want something you can jump into and have a blast whether for 30 minutes or 8 hours then this is worth checking out.

It's very kid friendly but anyone of any age would enjoy playing it and there's actually a large population of adult players. In order to keep it kid friendly it runs into one of it's limiting factors: open chat. It's difficult to communicate in game.

Ventrillo helps us in the TOG world, but it still has a very good commo point/click system for kids so they can still interact and enjoy playing with others.

Whatever TOG'rs out there play this game, please PM me here. My main is a 36 Life Wizard.

I'm happy to team up with anyone that's questing. I'm also looking for arena dueling partners in 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 for the near future.

Thanks for creating this thread! And give it a shot. You won't believe that a "kids" game could be more enjoyable than the WoWs out there.

    Cheers,
    ~ Zav

I've read good things about Wizard 101 when it released, Zavulon. I'll definitely keep my eye on this one and maybe try out it with my kids if I get through the list of f2p mmo's I'm testing at the moment. :D

Cool thread. Always in the market for free stuff. Gonna check out Wizard while i take a break from Runes of Magic. That's the good thing about f2p, you can take breaks without worrying if you should unsub or not.

I'm a f2p junkie :) I tend to jump on whatever is in beta at the moment and then move on. Allods at the moment but I'm not really finding anything that is so different from other mmos. Hoping that will change when we get to start testing out some of the pvp.

I've heard good things about Rohan but have never actually played it. Requium came out around the same time and I never got around to it.

There are some really great games out there. Some are cash shop dependent and that ruins them totally. Some are over run with hackers and bots. Some are well balanced and absolutely fantastic.
Good to see this forum :)

ooooohhhhhh wizards is like a yogio, pokemon type thing! My son is going to love this...after he gets back from his dad's in 3 weeks and mum has a high level to thrash *cough* I mean duel him with :D

I played Rohan online, Ebonytears. I had a great time there, the classes are quit original. Same for the skills, area over effect skills for scout class ! Couldn't resist that one. It was also one of the hardest games I've played, but I liked that level of difficulty. When we played in group with my main character, a healer, I had to heal and buff non stop, I couldn't stop for a second or my whole group was dead. :D

Requiem is on my list to try out soon, a horror theme sounds fun. I downloaded Rohan but won't install properly. Silkroad is another I tried but the servers are jammed full and was never able to get on. Played about an hour of Jade Dynasty and wasn't excited by it but might give it another chance.

Might give Rohan a try :) Could do with a bit of a challange. They've just put in a big push to clean bots and hackers out of silkroad but it hasn't made it any easier to loggin from what I hear.
I also had a 'meh' feel about Jade Dynasty. Just couldn't enjoy it. I found it boring and it was deleted rather quickly.

I would die for a chance to be able to play Silkroad properly, but for now the only way to be able to log in without spending hours trying to get on the server is to pay for a packet in the item shop that contains some exp scrolls and other things but they also give you easy access to the game, even if the servers are exceeded.
So silkroad has ended somewhere at the bottom of my mmo list because I'm always hoping they will fix this once and for all.

'Boring' would also be my initial assessment of Jade Dynasty. Players are able to gain XP while out of game, so everyone was standing around idling.

I always meant to check out Requiem but never got around to it. I play Shaiya on the odd occasion, not bad PvP.

If you do stop by Wizard 101 I'll be playing the following wizards:

Morgrim SoulForge - lv 37 Life
Morgrim HexForge - lv 13 Death
Brahm Battlehammer - lv 16 Ice
Autumn Night - Brand new Storm

No matter where you are in this game, I'll be happy to help on my Life toon.

Again, commo is very difficult, so you can't just send me a /tell. You'll have to PM me here so we can link up. Once you meet up with someone you click them and Add to Friends and then you can talk to them anywhere like we're used to.

The other bonus W101 has in the friends option is the ability to teleport instantly to wherever your friend is. It really really helps especially playing with folks new to MMOs. I abuse it constantly so you can hop from one map and back very quickly.

Lastly, if you subscribe/buy Beckett Online Game magazine be on the lookout for Wizard 101 in-game item codes. There's some sweet stuff out there.

    Later,
    ~Zav

    Hi There,

Ah, a fellow subscriber to "Beckett's Massive Online Gamer" magazine. For the past 4 or 5 months i've been sharing via "The Realms" message board. Some of those promo key codes on a first come first served basis via PM.

My last one on "Crime Craft" never got a response. :(

I guess i'll share those future item codes in this F2P message board from now on. I liked the magazine so much i renewed for another two years. ;)
