    Reminiscent of Mechwarrior/battletech, and even Eve in a way with its player run economy and gameplay feel; this new game in closed beta right now appears to offer something I've been after for quite a while. A giant robot fighting game! Now I haven't gotten my hands on this yet but its definately one I'll have an eye on for the opportunity. In the meantime, why not checkout their trailer.

    I guess that's a wish that many players say of all their games!

    Actually its the evil Harmony Gold Legal team poking their nose into the reboot.

    The classic Warhammer and Archer and Marauder mechs were the definitive Battletech mechs and deserve to appear in the reboot back to the third succession war of 3015.

    A rerun of the stoush between Harmony Gold and FASA over the use of those images within the United states led to them being classified as the "Unseen" Mechs even though their stats were still legally playable.

    Yes, but we're talking about different things.

    The Smith Tinker team were also co-ordinating the re-release of Mech4:Mercenaries for free as part of their generating excitement for their series reboot which they were planning to make. Apparently they "thought" they had permission to use those old Macross mecha models and somewhere along the line as you pointed out, they started buggering the plan up again.

    I tried contacting Smith & Tinker to talk about what was going on but they never responded.

    I hope they can sort it out, although personally I'd have picked a 3050+ date for the time for the series, to avoid just those issues.

    Massively's latest podcast is on Perpetuum, download or listen to it HERE.

    Don't want to give too many spoilers, but they talk about; Game lore and how the players fit into the game, procedural generation of next gen graphics with minimal size installs, and a bunch of game mechanics for combat, crafting, & the economy. Also a look into the studio behind the game and how they came to be together.

    * Good news, we will be able to design/build our own Robots. :D
    * Also, for those of you with low bandwidth / old computers, the system reqs and install size are remarkably low, despite featuring good graphics (through procedural generation).
    * They officially said, the closest current game would be "EVE Online" and the comparisons gamers have been making about it (for better or worse). Everything has been built from scratch, no "pinched" or "borrowed/licensed" code.
    * Runtime: 44mins or so
