    Hi all

Thought I start a thread to give a chance to let everyone know what MMORPG's they are playing, if any.

    I'm currently playing Asheron's Call 2

    None.

Most MMORPGs out there has some sort of subscription service required to play it.

Everquest/Evercrack is a prime example of it.

Star Wars Galaxies will have to be really good for me to get it and continue to pay a subscription on it to keep playing.

I played a shit load of EQ for about 14 months, then under threat of divorce gave up my accounts (yes i had 2 accounts) and a couple of months later bought a new game called Dark age of Camelot.
"Yes honey im not playing Evercrak any more cause you asked me to stop."
"No honey...this is nothing like Everquest"

You get the idea....DoAC last for about 4 months before that "not the same game arguement fell apart....but Star Wars...now that is different

...anyhow i can always blame Rickety

Was talking to a friend of mine who's been playing Everquest solidly for a while now - she even got invited to one of those EQ conventions that they have in the 'States - and her clan all chipped in and paid for her airline ticket to get her over there!

Anywho, she tells me that SWG is handled by the same company that did EQ - Verdant (?) Apparently Verdant has some issues that don't get resolved, and she's not real impressed with them. She's going off EQ now - only keeps playing for the online friendships. Complained that EQ became a game of simply "get better loot".

She's now playing the Beta of Shadowbane (www.shadowbane.com) - and from what she tells me, it looks very interesting, and the whole political/sociological side of it intrrigues me.

If only SWG didn't have the lure of light-sabre swingin'....

Yes, SWG is being developed by Verant. I have been closely (ok, maybe not that closely) following the development of SWG and I think it has a lot to offer. Of course it will remain to be seen just how much it actually DOES offer but so far it is encouraging.

I have had a look at Shadowbane and frankly wasn't that impressed. It is predominantly PvP which has never really interested me that much.

World of Warcraft by Blizzard is looking sweet and I suggest you check out the new gameplay movie available from Fileplanet.

Thought about it.. and if I dive headlong into MMORPGs, it's going to have to be SWG.

The drawcard? Lightsabres! Ok, ok.. I know that not everyone is going to have lightsabres because not everyone can be a Jedi/Sith.. but still - maybe I would be able to finally test out that theory - you know:

    Shotgun vs Lightsabre.

From what I read... Lightsabres on Jedi, will be rare. Jedi are hunted by the Empire.

You start off as general classes and you specialise in that class or if you have Force Sensitivity you then get the chance of getting training as a Jedi. Then if you become a Jedi, you'll have to hide else the Empire Guards and Sith Lords come hunting you down.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - this game will have lightsabres everywhere.

From the looks of it - no.

Or it'd be very difficult to get into the Imperials.

The word on becoming a Jedi in SWG is 'NO". While it is posible, they have made it so outrageously difficult that effectively there will be no Jedi. As the game is set between episode IV and V we already know how many Jedi are 'known' and that is basically one, Yoda (Luke is not a Jedi yet).

I can let you guys know more about this stuff if you want?

As for being an imperial, yes you can. The game will have several 'factions' that you will be able to join. On release, there will be only two, The Empire and The Rebels. You can be either declared or covert. To join a faction I think all you need to do is some sort of initial quest and then you're in.

Rickety - I would definitely like to know more stuff about SWG - post away.

It'd be good to read about it without all the marketing fluff. :)

Would also help me in deciding if I want to get this game and join the TOG faction. :)

Downloaded the World of Warcraft movie from GA, looks very impressive. But when I DL the AC2 one it also looked impressive but the game got bad reviews.

If I look at screenshots from games like everquest, they look so dated in comparison but obviously the gameplay must be good.

SWG's screenshots looks like quite dated technology to me as well to be honest.

Father, have a look at the SWG movies, especially the latest ones. They are far from dated and are so far the best graphics I have seen in any game.

    MMORPG of choice currently is

    http://www.puzzlepirates.com

Not quite in the normal vein .. but is still a MMORPG .. and it's currently free to boot, while in beta anyways.

Rather then normal fighting everything is puzzle based. Some of the puzzles are similar to tetris, or what you had in the PS2 game "Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo" .

    Anyways thats my 2 cents.

Still Planetside, but taking a break while they hopefully fix some new annoying bugs. Tried to install a Beta test of a game called Conquer today, but the zip file wouldn't let me extract any files (maybe need an asian O/S setup)

I am currently in the beta for http://cityofheroes.com and enjoying it.

Really simple to start characters and develop them into something unique, supposedly not possible to make nerfed characers, it moves really fast and has no "uber loot" or "camping spots" as far as I can tell at the moment.

I did play EQ for sometime but it's not D&D, I had frequent disconnects and it was draining my life away so I got that monkey off my back.
