Good news - though like someone posted, it seems there's a ton of BF games out these days, hope it gets the attention it deserves.

Good Grief, some time after March 2010. I hope I live long enough to play it.

Although it was always pretty well a certainty - it's great to have finally heard something official that it's actually coming. Most excellent :)

Lets hope they take their time and produce a good title, instead of their usual rush it out now and patch later attitude.

    Hi Guys,

DICE / EA, usually does like 3 months of a closed / open beta for any particular FPS game title. So I reckon that "Battlefield 3" is more likely to debut in 2011 than during the Holiday season of 2010.

A brief post from DICE developer Johan Andersson has indicated that Frostbite 2.0, the engine that will be behind future Battlefield titles, will not support Windows XP or DirectX 9:

As good as it is to have DICE release something (anything) of BF3, I'll get the speculation ball rolling with a little disappointment...

Looks very much to be a modern setting, which will likely see the same armies, weapons and possibly setting as we saw (and loved) in BF2. And while I know that's not at all confirmed, it certainly looks to be the case.

Battlefield: 1942 (2002) saw us in pitched battles right through Europe, North Africa and the Pacific. Battlefield 2 (2005) took us into the modern era with the fictional MEC fighting the US in (mainly) nameless urban/desert areas (with a DLC that brought us "home" to fight in the USA).

I had hoped that DICE would give us something as different as Battlefield: 1942 and Battlefield 2 were from each other... but if what I see in that teaser is what I think it is, we'll likely see an evolution rather than a revolution.

But - it's still very early, and speculation is only that :)

    And for posterity:

    Some important but brief points:

    - F*** EA.
    - <3 DICE.
    - BF > COD.
    - Jets FTW!
    - BF 2142 was a letdown.
    - BF3 should be several shades of awesome.

    That is all. :)
